Ellie Thumann 2023: Puerto Rico
Ellie Thumann was photographed by Derek Kettela in Puerto Rico for the 2023 SI Swimsuit Issue along with fellow models Duckie Thot and Jennifer Atilémile.
Thumman is best known for her YouTube channel, where she creates beauty, lifestyle and fashion content. The Phoenix native got her start in the modeling industry as a young girl, and has since worked with brands such as Kate Spade, Reebok and Levi’s. Thumann is a mental health advocate who candidly shares her own successes and struggles with emotional well-being in order to destigmatize the topic. This is her first appearance in the SI Swimsuit Issue.
Rich in culture and history, Puerto Rico offers both thrilling adventure and ultimate relaxation. It’s a hot spot for authentic cuisine, exotic wildlife, breathtaking scenery and more. The archipelago located in the Caribbean Sea consists of one main island and four smaller islands, as well as numerous islets, all of which offer secluded sandy spots and immaculate views. It provided an unforgettable setting for the 2023 SI Swimsuit Issue.

The styling for Thumann’s photo shoot in Puerto Rico was tagged “For the Love of Denim.” Each swimwear look was either fully denim or largely inspired by the blue jean motif and captured shades of denim across the spectrum. The SI Swimsuit team worked closely with designers to upcycle previously used materials into unique and chic looks that brought their funky vision to life.
